The value of Canada’s agri-food exports have more than doubled since 1990, with consumer-oriented exports surpassing bulk commodities. Canadian agri-food exports amounted to $26.5 billion, $20.4 billion in 2004, with 61% destined for U.S. markets. Other major export markets include Japan, the European Union, Mexico and China.
Agricultural producers have been diversifying in response to global market conditions. The majority of agricultural production is concentrated among a large group of successful and business-oriented farms.
